At the inaugural Senior Officials' Working Group (SOWG) meeting in November 2006, it was agreed that a logical approach to progressing the Brisbane Communiqué goals would be to undertake scoping studies to ascertain the current situation in the region and to determine where effort needs to be placed for future action. In addition, to hold a number of seminars in the region on the priority areas of quality assurance and educational and professional recognition.

Three scoping studies on quality assurance, qualifications recognition and teaching standards are complete and the reports are available from the documents page of this website.

A workshop on Higher Education Quality Assurance in the Asia-Pacific was held in Chiba City Japan on the 18 February 2008. Thirty eight quality assurance experts representing quality assurance agencies and Ministries of Education from seventeen countries attended the workshop. A report based on the quality assurance scoping study, prepared by the APQN and a discussion paper prepared by the Australian Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations informed the workshop. Workshop participants supported the development of a set of quality assurance principles for the region and a version is currently being circulated amongst them for comment.
