The Brisbane Communiqué, issued at the Asia-Pacific Education Ministers’ Meeting in Brisbane, Australia on 3-4 April 2006, signalled the commitment of the greater Asia-Pacific region to strengthening good relations in the region and underpinning its social and economic development, through student and academic mobility and research collaboration.

A workshop on Higher Education Quality Assurance in the Asia-Pacific was held in Chiba City Japan on the 18 February 2008. Thirty eight quality assurance experts representing quality assurance agencies and Ministries of Education from seventeen countries attended the workshop. Workshop participants supported the development of a draft set of quality assurance principles for the region and this version is currently being circulated for comment.
